Genre LGBT Contemporary
Celebrating "Coming Out Day" 2010

Partners and Federal Agents, Jason Lowery and Noah Black wake up in bed together naked, but neither one knows how they got there, or to the remote cabin the bed's in. Jason's interested, very interested, but he fears his partner’s reaction and the potential fallout if their superiors ever find out. He misread a fellow officer’s interest once and lost it all -- his career, his friends, his family’s respect. This time around, he won't be the one risking everything.

Noah has always been curious about sex with another man, but his strict upbringing and life in law enforcement made it impossible to explore that side of his nature safely. When he and Jason get locked in a cabin by a well-meaning friend, Noah wants to sample the forbidden.

Both men agree to a single afternoon of passion. Just to see.

When they are released from the cabin, Jason wants to see where a relationship with Noah might lead. However, Noah is not ready to make such a radical lifestyle change -- and he doesn’t think he’ll ever be ready to come out to friends and family.

REVIEW CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS

So this was one of my trying new writer (for me, I have no idea whether this writer is new or not, maybe she has been writing for a longest time, I just have not read anything by her yet) on a whim of Amazon recommendations and while plot made me roll my eyes couple of times, overall it was a success.

Jason has a crush on his immediate supervisor Noah for quite some time now. They are both FBI agents. He has a stupidity to share this fact with his well connected and powerful russian friend Nick (Nickolai Popov) and Nick, fellow who is used to take matters in his own hands in his infinite wisdom decides to do the equivalent of locking Jason and Noah in one room together for the weekend. Only he does it on more grandeur scale.

Usually I cannot tolerate one of the guys playing God to another and doing something like that, or worse, but here third party does it, so I felt quite differently, since Jason is even more embarassed and angry when he realizes what his friend did.

Read to find out how the weekend ends and no, the ending of the weekend is not the end of the story, far from it. I think this story has one of the most sensible interpetations of GFY trope. Noah does not magically become gay over the weekend, he seemed to have repressed curiosity about "gay sex" for quite some time and how he deals with everything after the weekend was very enjoyable to read for me.

I have no idea how well the author researched the everyday workings of FBI office, so I do not know how realistic it was, but it was definitely fun to read about.

Caught by Surprise was good but predictable. A fast easy read with sex and cop drama. Read it and archived it.
Great book, that is enough to have to rate a product. Should be easier to rate a product. Ha Ha
Good gay novel, nice read.
This had potential; the premise is silly but I can go along with that for good sex. This was not. Cliched writing and awkward sex scenes. And 'the blond' and 'the brunet'... I won't even read free slash that uses those nouns to refer to the characters. What was the editor of this book thinking? The writing overall is reasonable, outside of the awful 'blond' and 'brunet' references, but the sex scenes lacked realism.
Well, the roles were reversed this time. The gay guy (Jason) is such a schmuck in the beginning and the straight guy (Noah) is more patient and easier going so he is more worthy of hero-worship than any other character in the story. Loved the premise and how Madison got the ball rolling (so to speak)on the plot. Some things that happen in this story don't seem all that plausible, but remind yourself that this is a story that you are reading for self enjoyment. I did and I did, and I recommend it.
Although I loved the characters (and certainly wish I could have gotten to know them better), I felt like we were thrown into the story so quickly I didn't know who was who. I enjoyed the secondary story of the problems at work - Team Leader Noah being bullied by an obnoxious Section Chief. I would have enjoyed it more if that was drawn out more. The ending was extremely abrupt, with everything simply resolved in one paragraph. I found it a bit lacking in both plot and character development, but it was not an unpleasant read.
This lovely book was just the right length for me! Sure, there was lots of hot sex between the two main characters, but there was also a plot with real heart (which is what keeps me reading!). The writing was refreshingly good (this is a tough genre to find really good writing in, I've discovered), straightforward, and the setting was well-researched. In fact, I enjoyed it so much, I wanted to read another of L.D.'s books.

The two main characters are, for the most part, believable (although you have to suspend at least a little belief that Noah would be asking his subordinate to demonstrate what gay sex is like, but I didn't mind suspending it at all!). These are two salt of the earth, good men, who have found friendship and long for more in their lives. Little did they know Jason's outrageous friend would lock them in an isolated cabin in the North Carolina mountains and present Noah as a "gift." Yes, the premise is a bit over the top, but then I'm a fantasy kind of gal, anyhow. The emotions are believable and honest -- Jason has been deeply hurt by his family's lack of acceptance and recriminations -- Noah is afraid of what coming out will mean for his beloved family. Wonderful angst ensues!

Definitely worth the read! I can't wait to read more of this author's work. Hint, hint!
